Certified windows: safety, reliability and comfort
Windows are increasingly technical products. Just a few years ago, they were still assembled on the construction site, but over the past decade they have become a sophisticated construction system integrating a high level of technology and ever greater efficiency.
Recycling of PVC windows
Using recycled PVC in windows is a growing trend in which several key market stakeholders have become involved by having their plants certified, including Deceuninck, Paprec, Rehau, Suez and VEKA for one factory in France and one in Germany. The CSTB issues QB34 and NF126 certifications, which showcase PVC reprocessing and reassure the sector about the constancy of the technical characteristics and the associated performance levels. These certifications represent real progress in the recognition of how PVC windows perform in relation to the circular economy.
Meet the CSTB at Equipbaie 2018
The CSTB guides industry stakeholders as they mobilize for the quality, sustainability and comfort of buildings. From November 20th to 23rd, experts from the CSTB's Windows & Glazing as well as Safety, Structures & Fire Performance departments will be at the Equipbaie international trade fair in Paris, at Porte de Versailles.
Building higher on the shores of the Mediterranean: requirements for stability and comfort
The weather conditions on the Mediterranean coast, characterized by winds from the sea and land, must be considered during construction. The CSTB assisted in designing the 100-meter high towers for housing units, offices and services on a coveted shoreline where land is scarce.
The CSTB's expertise supporting the Montpellier Sud-de-France train station
Comprising a roof made of ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC), with an openwork pattern of 10,000 glazed openings, the new train station in Montpellier is a technical and architectural innovation designed by Marc Mimram.
A chimney that resists hurricanes and improves natural ventilation
The CSTB has developed a hurricane-resistant chimney, which reinforces houses in hot regions subject to hurricanes. This innovation enables a building to withstand a hurricane and gives it optimal natural ventilation, reducing the need for air conditioning.
Safety and wind comfort for the Cultural Center of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation
In the center of a large city park facing the sea, south of Athens, the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera have relocated to exceptional new buildings designed by architect Renzo Piano. The design of these buildings, inaugurated in early 2017, relied on the expertise of the CSTB in two areas: aerodynamics in engineering works and wind comfort in urban spaces.
The offering of the CSTB: ATEx and regulatory flexibility
On June 21, the CSTB organized a day-long event to guide stakeholders in innovation. A round table discussion focused on innovation in connection with the regulatory flexibility recently proposed for the construction industry. In order to support stakeholders, the CSTB is expanding the scope of the Technical Experimentation Assessment (ATEx) to new solutions that have been developed, based on the regulatory flexibility that has made it possible to use means other than those described in the regulations.
