CSTB Nantes, in association with ESAT Tournière Services (French organizations that help disabled people back into work) in Carquefou, France, has created a laundry service at AQUASIM, its major research facility for the sustainable management of water in buildings.

Behind the scenes at the Silver BIM Awards 2018: the Jardins de l'Arche Tower in La Défense with the CSTB
The winner of the Silver BIM Award 2018, the Jardins de l'Arche tower in La Défense, will feature three hotels, offices and an observation platform at the top, by 2022. With its 54 floors, standing 200 meters high, this project won in the category of new construction projects with an area of more than 40,000 square meters.
Building higher on the shores of the Mediterranean: requirements for stability and comfort
The weather conditions on the Mediterranean coast, characterized by winds from the sea and land, must be considered during construction. The CSTB assisted in designing the 100-meter high towers for housing units, offices and services on a coveted shoreline where land is scarce.
The CSTB's expertise supporting the Montpellier Sud-de-France train station
Comprising a roof made of ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC), with an openwork pattern of 10,000 glazed openings, the new train station in Montpellier is a technical and architectural innovation designed by Marc Mimram.
Greywater recycling: from concept to assessment
In October 2015, WisElement, a VSE, took advantage of the CSTB’s innovation advisory and support service, Ariane. Since then, it has been advancing step-by-step to increase the reliability of its innovative device for the instant recovery of heat from shower greywater. In 2016, the CSTB initiated a study of the technical and regulatory aspects of the innovation in the concept phase. The results may support a request for Technical Approval in 2017.
A chimney that resists hurricanes and improves natural ventilation
The CSTB has developed a hurricane-resistant chimney, which reinforces houses in hot regions subject to hurricanes. This innovation enables a building to withstand a hurricane and gives it optimal natural ventilation, reducing the need for air conditioning.
Urban swales to improve stormwater management
In urban areas, stormwater can cause pollution and floods as a consequence of increasing urbanization, which makes ground impermeable. As part of an R&D partnership project called Matriochkas, the CSTB is working with IFSTTAR Nantes, Centrale Nantes, the City of Nantes and the Loire-Brittany Water Agency on an urban stormwater swale system that enables permeation and retention. The CSTB is testing this full-scale solution at its Aquasim test facility.
